Bring the Noise, with a Side of Cheese
My list of saccharine-sweet white-guy-music guilty pleasures has, at varying times, included some pretty damn suspect bands. Like, really suspect. I once paid good green American money for a Nickelback record. Which, in terms of discriminating taste, is equivalent to eating at a Taco Bell inside a Wal-Mart that shares a parking lot with McDonalds. There are numerous other dated examples.
I have a strong feeling that this remix is one of those tracks I will look back on and say, man, how did I listen to that shit? Because it's classic white-guy-music mixed with some mega-cheese synth trance? What the fuck?
But then I listen to it and it's great. So here we are. Judge all you want; I'll be over in the corner, getting my dance on.
I CAN'T HEAR YOU - THERE'S TOO MUCH AWESOME IN MY EARS. AWESOME-Y? AWESOME-ISH? STILL CAN'T HEAR YOU.
CALL BACK TOMORROW.

Why is the president holding a Thundercats sword?
No idea in which alternate universe this photograph was taken, but it appears as though the POTUS is holding a Thundercats sword. I want to know where Thundercats is still on television so that I can move there, or at least have someone send me some videotapes for my VCR so I can watch it.How is it possible that these products are still selling? They haven't been on TV for 20 years. (Not that I've checked or anything. Sheesh.)
Also, if this sword exists in this universe, why don't I have one already? This is a g-damn travesty. The dog would think it was the most epic chew toy ever. And unlike that recent episode with my brand my new shoes I wouldn't be annoyed when I caught her trying to eat it.

it's in the bible - I looked it up

my good friend Jordan suggested I leave the OC for sunny Chico (where he's getting his masters or teaching credential or something). he said:
you should probably come up here and become a lake guy with a kick ass ski boat. you can't escape it, it's in your genes.
I said: I can get a ski boat to impress the co-eds. is it bad if that sounds awesome to me? maybe a little.
he responded: Anything that involves co-eds and ski boats is totally awesome. It's in the bible. I looked it up.

The Swamp of Sadness: I've been there
A while back I went to see Princess Bride at the local theater. It was good times. I wrote a thing about it but I'm too lazy to add a link you won't click through. Enh, okay, here you go.
Last night I revisited The Neverending Story. Some 80's movies have held up really well (Princess Bride, Goonies, among a few others). Other 80's movies are worth reviewing if only for their unintended hilarity. Neverending Story was the latter type. It was funny, but so bad-it-was-good funny. Bad acting, bad props, bad dialog, bad animatronics, bad everything. Nothing about it was good, except to remind you that if you have 2 hours and $6.50 you should spend them more wisely on a Wednesday night. I told my friend it was a life lesson, and that she should thank me for showing her the value of her time/money.
Title of this post refers to the place that Falcor the Luck Dragon picks up Atreyu (sp?) the hero. [I felt awkward just typing that.] I was in the Swamp of Sadness at that point too, so I was kind of bummed when a big hairy claw didn't descend from the ceiling to pull me out of it.
Next week on the big screen: Point Break.
Johnny Utah and that weird love interest. What was her name? Bodie? Beadie? Brodie? Whatever.

Just a city boy, born and raised in south Detroit...

The last episode of the Sopranos aired tonight. The series had lost much of it's intensity, especially in the beginning of this last half-season, when HBO decided to extend it by six episodes and didn't have enough plot to stretch. The show finished with a bang, though, and the last episode was one of those shows they'll be reviewing in film classes for years to come. Brilliant, compelling television.
I was especially fond of the music used to close the series: Tony listening to Don't Stop Believing by Journey. (Full disclosure: that makes the third time in three nights I heard the song, since they played it in the bars when I was out on Friday and Saturday, which says a lot about my taste in bars, but there you go).
I'm proud to say that I have a copy of the power-ballad classic on CD, and I defy you to resist it's awesome strenf. The song was Track 1 on a mix-tape a friend made me a couple years ago, before she moved back home. To north jersey. A funny coincidence. Nothing says north Jersey like a power-ballad, I guess.
thanks for reading.
ps. when are skin-tight jeans up to your armpits going to come back? that look is hot! you don't believe me, watch the video in the Journey link above. or go here.
