The last guy I lent to repaid his loan to Kiva, which means I get to re-allocate the resources. He was a shopkeeper and fairly close to home (relatively speaking) so for the next one I wanted to pick someone that would get more out of the money. Which brings us to the lovely-named Mrs. Liliane Sagbohan:

Mrs. Liliane Sagbohan was born on May 14, 1978 in Ekpè in Ouémé County in the southeast of Benin. She is married and the mother of 2 children: Corneille and Fabienne, aged 5 and 2 respectively. She furnishes various household items to her neighbors in the district who have confidence in her because her products are of good quality. She is requesting this loan to bolster her business which is currently growing rapidly.

Consider it done. She's got 90% of her loan so I think it's going to be funded (they wouldn't let me fund the whole thing). Sweet.

Had to check the map to find Benin. It's between Nigeria and Togo, on the Gulf of Guinea. Wherever that is. People say it's a small world. If you believe that you should try walking to Hawaii. Or Porto Novo (capital of Benin).

My Kiva loan to

Karomadjon Tojiboeva

was fully repaid, so I re-allocated the funds to a small business owner in Mexico named Luis Alfonson Torres Rodriguez. He doesn't get his name in big letters b/c I didn't have to copy/paste it from the Kiva website like Ms. Tojiboeva. You care.

Read about Mr. Rodriguez and his efforts here. His loan is not yet fully funded, but he's about 1/3 of the way there. Feel free to loan him some money. I think he's good for it.

Microlending (or microcredit, or micro-credit, depending on who you're reading) is all the rage right now. It's in Bill Clinton's book, it's a pet project of Natalie Portman, blah blah blah. Whatever. You heard about it here almost a year ago. Hate to brag that I was a little bit out in front of the curve on this one, but I watch public television. Weird, I know.

Kiva forwards updates on the person to whom you loan the money, so here's the latest:

Karomadjon is very happy, because due the loan from KIva she increased the volume of her goods and she could paid education for her children and also she could buy new clothes for daughter.Her business is gradually takes rate of groth.In thew end of this month she plans to purchase vegetables and other food product for winter season.She is very thankful for KIva.
